How many rifleman guest stars have either won or been nominated for an academy award? I can think of five off hand.

I asked this question many years ago and there were two Oscar winners that I know about.

James Coburn won a supporting Oscar in Affliction in 1998 and Martin Landau won a supporting Oscar in Ed Wood in 1994. Martin Landau had two other nominations.

Also Robert Vaughn got nominated for supporting in The Young Philadelphians and Jack Kruschen for supporting in The Apartment.

I'm surprised Walter Brennan didn't make a guest appearance on Rifleman.

Johnny Crawford (Mark) should have won something. I know he was nominated for an award and he should have won. I can't think of any other child actor that has his acting ability - not even today. Such an Awesome talent!

I agree about Johnny.  To think he had done so much work even before Rifleman.   He was on Lone Ranger, Wagon Train, Have Gun will Travel, Mickey Mouse Club  and other work even before becoming Mark.  and it seemed like he was not raised to be the typical Hollywood Brat.

Johnny and his bro Bobby were nom for Emmys same year their Father was nominated for film editing.  none won but the family was truly talented.

You can tell he had a love for acting...it was just not something his parents pushed him into.  and his later work was great as well.  El Dorado, Big Valley, Little House on the Prairie.

I love the way Johnny acts with his big brown eyes and his smile!

I have a CD of his music in my car.  I love both Chuck and Johnny.  are you new to the Ranch?  if you are we will enjoy chatting with you.  I love the forum Cowgirl has created for us

I was perusing the Emmy winners and see that Johnny Crawford did win supporting actor Emmy in a continuing series. Or was he just a nominee. Just checked he was a nominee and Dennis Weaver beat him for Gunsmoke.

Hey Ellen Corby was in Rifleman and won an Emmy for Waltons and Agnes Morehead won an Emmy.

Chuck received an Emmy nomination for his 1976 performance in Roots.
