If you haven't seen this on Youtube it's worth watching. A short subject 22 minutes long made back in 1970 with Johnny Crawford as a loner who "divorces himself from reality, choosing cowboy daydreams over modern malaise."  When I first saw it I couldn't hear it well then decided to listen hard cuz JC was so doggone handsome. I swear this part was written for JC.  Check out these scenes

When he is talking to his landlady about the rent.
When he walks like John Wayne into a type of store.
When he comes out with the toothpick in his mouth close ups.
When he goes into the alley and pretends he's in a showdown with the outlaws listening and waiting for the moment.

Sitting on the table with the girl talking about authentic western stars and their garb.

Loved it.  thanks Rhiannon.

Thanks for telling everyone about this awesome film, markisddg. I hadn't thought to post anything about it cause at the time I sent it to you I thought it was just us who would have loved it. Johnny was SO cute in this and it really did seem like it was how he would be! And thanks for posting your favorite parts. I completely agree about these parts!!!
One of my favorite parts that you mentioned is when when he's sitting on the bench going on and on about the hats and not all cowboys have their own horses! He cracks me up the way he did that. Also do you notice how he always says  "And uh..." Love that!

We're so lucky it's on YouTube!

Yes Yes Yes I noticed everything and loved that "and uh" and did you notice he says towards the end how John Wayne always wore a different  hat in every movie and then mentions Cooper then back to John Wayne he says he always wore the same hat but it was a good hat. LOL I believe he mentions Along Came Jones too.

I finally figured out he asks for a shot of Red Eye. He was so cute in that. I hate when those guys steal his watch. I had to watch it a few times (well 8 or 9) to appreciate it and understand why it won an oscar.

I'm so glad I knew about this so you could too. That's how the universe works, I think. Yeah, I love that whole scene about the hats. I loved the part about Gary Cooper too cause I loved him and have seen Along Came Jones tons of times. And of course I love the whole thing cause it's all Johnny!

We sure can go on about this one...and don't you love that close up in the alley before he gets mugged...he looks to his left then to his right and his mouth twitches..I love that it makes him look like he's ready to draw. Then he turns around and for a split second he looks so happy.

And love that "Yep"

I know we're nutz.

I should speak for myself when I said we're nutz....LOL but if you want to join me ....even better.

And of course my favorite "Well if it's good enough for you it's good enough for me." doing his impression of Wayne I think.

His hair got a lot thicker and coarser as he got older.

LOL. Well you can speak for me too, because I don't think there's any question about that : )

Yes it did! I thought it got darker too, but it didn't since it always WAS dark, just lightened for Rifleman (which I never knew until Michelle I think it was, said it).

Oh and I loved how his hair got lightened. It looked so natural..

I just watched this earlier today and it was excellent. In my opinion, it seemed like a commentary on how society tends to look down on people who are different, and Johnny played the part of Billy beautifully.

That mugging scene was hard to watch, but you know what I found even more unsettling? When Billy tells the cashier at the concession stand that he just got into "one hell of a fight" and has obvious bruising on his face to prove it, the cashier just deadpans "That'll be 26¢." as if he didn't say anything at all! Not "Are you okay?" or "Do you need me to call for help?", just gave him his total. That's cold and sadly, probably not terribly uncommon.
