Whenever you turn on your TV or pop in that DVD, the first thing you hear (and see) is Chuck firing that rifle.  There's something about the opening that gets your heart to beating as you anticipate watching Mark, Lucas, and Micah fighting against those bad guys:

Then when you hear the unknown announcer say "The Rifleman," in that booming voice of his, you know what's coming next:  "Starring Chuck Connors" as that all too familuar tune plays.

Then when the last scene ends, the wonderful tune that we have all come to know and love is played:

You know what my favorite part of the ending theme song is?  When you can hear the clip clop sound!  I remember when I first started watching The Rifleman last October, my heart started pumping when I heard the clip clop on the theme song.  I had been taken away in some magical world with this wonderful Father and Son team, then it ends with the clip-clop in the music...It's absolutely magical!

There's just something about that tune that makes one excited!  How many of you have hummed this tune in the car or in the shower?  Come on, admit it - we all have! There is something just so....magical about this tune, and when we hear it, we can't help but feel good and excited!

BUT.....How many of you knew that this wasn't just a tune?  There are actually words to it:

Thank you, Margie for these wonderful, memorable soundbites!

My favorite part of the lyrics is the last verse:

THERE IS A MORAL TO HIS EXPLOITS
AND HE'S TAUGHT IT TO HIS SON
                         SPEAK SOFTLY TO YOUR ENEMY
BUT LET HIM SEE YOUR GUN!

I remember when John and I had talked about lyrics to The Rifleman.  He knew there was some, but didn't know where they were.  He was still going through his fathers things and hadn't come across them.

Then one day I got an email from John tell me that he found them on his fathers puter.

Thank John for giving me the permission to be able to add these lyrics to the ranch.  They truly are an asset!

The lyrics are owned by Herschel Burke Gilbert's publishing company:  John Paul Music. John & Paul are Herschel's son's.

I would like to give kudos to the writers and I don t know where else to post it.
I think they were before their time with the scripts, rooting out evil while also showing love and compassion with a father showing real love to his son without worrying about being politically correct. A Father not afraid to hug or kiss his son. A man who gave every down and outer a job at the ranch for his McCain rehab clinic.

Like the words to the rifleman song says....he never reaches for his rifle except when he's attacked. He reckons theres a time to speak and theres a time to act.   They packed a lot into a 30  min episode

Chuck was the absolute best choice for Lucas, a tall handsome prominent guy sitting tall in the saddle who wielded justice while also teaching life's morals and values to his son.    The words to the rifleman song says …..there is a moral to his exploits and he's taught it to his son.  Speak softly to your enemy but let him see your gun.  Good advice for today.

We need more North Fork in our lives. I wish the words to the song would have been more prominent with the series viewers.  Even the song reflected the shows values.  Words by Alfred Perry to Herschel Burke Gilberts music

We need more westerns or stories like this today. Michael Landon Jr is producing some quality family westerns but there will never be another Lucas and Mark.  That ship has sailed!
